MTJudge — AI Magic: The Gathering Rules Judge

Get instant, accurate rulings for Magic: The Gathering. Ask any rules question and get an answer grounded in the official Comprehensive Rules and real card data from Scryfall.

What is MTJudge?

MTJudge is a free, AI-powered Magic: The Gathering rules assistant. It works like having a judge at your table — ask about card interactions, keyword abilities, timing, layers, or any other MTG rules question and get a detailed answer backed by the official Comprehensive Rules.

How does it work?

MTJudge identifies the cards in your question, fetches their Oracle text from Scryfall, then searches the Comprehensive Rules for the most relevant sections — including keyword abilities, state-based actions, and cross-referenced rules. All of that context is used to generate a clear, well-sourced answer.

What can you ask?

  • Card interactions — “Can I sacrifice a creature in response to exile?”
  • Keyword abilities — “How does double strike work with lifelink?”
  • Stack and timing — “Can I respond to a planeswalker ability?”
  • Layers and continuous effects — “What happens if Humility and Opalescence are both in play?”
  • State-based actions — “When does a creature with 0 toughness die?”
  • Commander-specific rules — “How does commander damage work with Virtus the Veiled?”

Is it free?

Yes. MTJudge is free to use during the open beta. The service runs on a shared daily budget — when the budget is used up for the day, it pauses until the next day. No account is required to ask questions, but signing up lets you save your conversation history and share rulings with friends.

A note on accuracy

MTJudge cites the specific Comprehensive Rules sections it uses, so you can verify every answer. That said, AI can make mistakes — for tournament-level or high-stakes rulings, always double-check with an official judge.
